Motivational interviewing (MI) is a person-centered, guiding method of communication and counseling to elicit and strengthen motivation for change.  It is designed to increase an individual’s motivation for and movement toward a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.

The essence of Motivational Interviewing lies in our basic assumption that people are naturally inclined to strive towards being the best person they can be.  We find the motivation that is already within the individual and build discrepancy where they are at, all the while affirming and valuing the whole person.

Susan is a member of the International Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and conducts MI workshops for organizations wanting to learn collaborative language.

Michelangelo Belief:   The capacity and potential for change and adherence is within every person!
